BRITS DESPERATE TO GET BACK ON A PLANE

February 2021. Research just unveiled by online deals platform HolidayPirates, reveals that Brits have no intention of changing their travel habits and are desperate to jump on a plane as soon as possible.

When HolidayPirates’ users were asked if the pandemic has made them rethink future travel, only three per cent said we should travel less. Asked if the pandemic had meant they’ve discovered staycations, 54 per cent of the same audience said they hadn’t, with 32 percent of those saying that a holiday means going abroad. Twenty two per cent said they’d only holidayed in the UK because of the pandemic.

This strong sentiment was backed up when asked whether business travel would still be relevant in the future, where 58 per cent believed that it will still be relevant and some topics need to be discussed in person. In addition, more than half (56 per cent) would jump at the chance of moving overseas to work, if they had the option. Of those allowed to work remotely, nearly a quarter (24 per cent) said they would love to combine work and a holiday in order to properly discover a destination.

The research showed a huge 85 per cent saying they didn’t mind if people posted on social media platforms from their holidays during the pandemic.

Phil Salcedo, Head of Market UK and North America commented:It’s a resounding message from travellers - they want to go abroad for leisure and start travelling again as soon as they possibly can. Given the chance, many would hold business meetings with colleagues abroad and even, go one step further, and move abroad to work remotely. Staycations are selling really well at the moment and, given this week’s announcements by the UK Government, this is likely to increase dramatically in the short term. However, it’s clear the floodgates of overseas travel will open when restrictions are lifted to the extent that people feel safe and can afford to travel.

International survey carried out in January 2021 in the UK, France, Germany Italy and Spain with a total of 10,222 consumers.
