The hybrid-working model that benefits employers all over the world
The ability to work anywhere at any time has been a global trend for some time now. With more and more companies adapting to offer this mode of employment, the concept of off-site work has become remarkably popular. But hybrid work doesn’t necessarily mean working from home – it can be logging in from a coffee shop or from different places around the world. In almost every industry, employers and employees are discovering the various benefits the new system brings to the table.
At the HolidayPirates Group, it hasn’t been any different. Our hybrid policy has been very well received by our teams, and since September 2020 all employees have been able to work from wherever makes the most sense for them. Whether working from our international HQ in Berlin, home, the beach, a shared workspace or anywhere that is conducive to success for the individual we emphasize results and well-being over location.
For this edition of our Pirate Diaries, we interviewed Agata Bilska (she/her) on the positive impact this policy has had on her professional and personal life.
On board since 2016, Agata started as Junior Community Manager for the Polish market and later became a Senior Social Media Strategist. Since September 2022, she has worked as Senior Digital Marketing Manager and Social Media Strategist at our UK harbor. Agata is normally based in Berlin and when the hybrid-working-policy was announced she was very excited.
Hybrid Highlights!
“HolidayPirates’ hybrid policy is really valuable to me, because it shows that the company listens and is flexible. There is no need to be in the office all the time when projects can be easily done online.”
HolidayPirates aims to put into practice what we stand for as a company: we explore the world in search of inspiring destinations. “Before 2020 we had only a few home office days per quarter and it was harder to plan trips or even family visits. Nowadays there are more possibilities to prepare interesting content from the various places the Pirates can work from. I enjoy the flexibility that the hybrid-working policy enables us to have and I can work from many different and beautiful places in the world as well as in our headquarters in Berlin whenever I want to see my coworkers on-site.”
Seeking balance
“Working remotely is like any other day working at the office, apart from the part where I have to commute and lose valuable time of my private life. I start my working day at the same time I would start working if we’d still have to go to the office. There are no huge differences – I have my tasks to complete, my team-meetings and have as much contact with my colleagues as I would have on-site, but everything happens online.”
“Moving around to work gives me a boost of energy and creativity”
“The best part of this experience is definitely getting to explore the world while being able to work from anywhere, so that not all vacation days are gone if I want to discover a new place.
For example, in winter I can escape from gray and cold Berlin: waking up in a sunny place, working from a terrace and exploring the area, doing some hiking, chilling at the beach or meeting the local community after work are some of the things I have come to cherish and enjoy on a daily basis – and I wouldn’t change this for the world. When I am able to spend more time in a country or island, then I have time to explore it with no rush, moving from one place to another and adapting to the pace of each new place.”
“Moving around to work and live like that also gives me a nice boost of energy and creativity, which I sometimes miss during the dark winter months in Berlin. The Sun can definitely improve my mood, which also makes me more productive. Another positive aspect of being able to work remotely is that I can go visit my family abroad for longer periods of time and spend more time with them, because I don’t have to use all my holidays to do so.”
Working from beautiful places promotes employee well-being
In short, these are some of the benefits of hybrid-work for employees and employers:
1. Working remotely allows for a better work-life balance
2. Hybrid-working employees have more freedom
3. Being a digital nomad promotes employee well-being
4. Hybrid work results in increased productivity
5. Hybrid work saves companies’ resources
6. Offering a hybrid-working model makes companies more competitive
When asked where the coolest place Agata has ever worked from was, she told us: “I worked remotely in a few cool places, but right now I am deeply enjoying my stay in La Gomera, in the Canarian Islands. I escaped from the cold Berlin weather to live and work here for a few weeks. After work and during the weekend I have time to explore the island, go hiking, spend time in nature, and simply relax and stock up on some sunshine.”
