Promoting a culture of compassion in the workplace
HolidayPirates’ hybrid work policy and flexible working hours are very important for my mental wellbeing
“I think the hybrid policy is amazing for my mental health and work-life balance. If you’re having a bad day, you can stay at home, which at many other companies just isn’t possible. Also, not having to commute each day, which can be super stressful, is really great.”
“The flexible working is also so helpful, if you need some time in the morning, it is perfectly fine for you to start a bit later, or take a yoga class or a long walk in the middle of the day if you need to, as long as you work your required hours you can make the day work for you.”
How the pandemic affected your modus operandi
“I had therapy for social anxiety long before covid which had really helped, but not being able to leave the house, and see other people, let alone get out of my comfort zone during the pandemic really made it worse once we were allowed out again. HolidayPirates was a great support throughout the pandemic, and we knew if we needed any extra help, it was there for us to access.”
When colleagues become friends and supporters
“I’m definitely satisfied with the relationships I have with my current colleagues. I would class many of them as friends, which is definitely a plus side to a job, being able to work with people you like and get on with.”
“Many of my colleagues have gone above and beyond when it comes to supporting my mental health, even when it might not be something they understand on a personal level, I’ve never been made to feel stupid or that I shouldn’t feel a certain way.”
Work-life balance and mental health days
“HolidayPirates is a very sociable company with loads of fun perks, including parties and meet-ups, which are always fun but also can be daunting to someone with anxiety, but I feel like if something were really going to be too much, the company would be understanding, and I wouldn’t be penalised for dropping out of a game/activity if it was going to be a trigger.“
“The company has a list of options for you if you are struggling with your mental health, and one of the nicest things is knowing that if you need a sick day due to your mental health, it is totally fine to take one, as they do not differentiate whether the reasons are physical or mental.”
Open communication is key
“I would feel fine discussing my mental health with my managers, I’ve had some managers in the past at HolidayPirates as well as currently, and they definitely are understanding about what I might be feeling, know what my limits might be and where to give me a gentle nudge when needed or when something might be too much.”
“The company recently partnered with OpenUp – a platform that offers mental health support and I didn’t even know such a thing existed. You have unlimited access to 1-on-1 sessions with certified psychologists, live meditation classes, group classes, online tools to help with coping techniques, mindfulness and more, it has been a great help to me in the short time I have had access to it – thanks HolidayPirates!”
